It is the purpose of this plan to modify inappropriate behaviors to standards set by the student's Individualized
Education Plan. These students exhibit behavioral disorders which interfere with their ability to learn effectively
within the mainstream.
In order to facilitate learning in academic, behavioral and social areas, The Education Academy program emphasizes
the use of behavior modification procedures in conjunction with a highly structured environment. Significant emphasis is
directed toward reinforcement of appropriate behavior management systems. These systems include behavioral checklists and
token economies, which are adjusted to meet the individual needs of the students. Feedback is provided to parents on a
regular basis, thus encouraging parental participation in their child's program. As a student begins to acquire more
internal control, the behavior management system may be modified. The ultimate goal of the program is to integrate the
child into the least restrictive environment.
Affect activities are incorporated into the classroom program on a daily basis. The students engage in group
discussions encompassing planned and spontaneous topics as a means of facilitating further development of: positive
self-concept; appropriate interaction with authority; appropriate academic behavior. In addition, therapy sessions
are provided via the school counselor.
